A dice roller. Why does this forum not have a dice roller? Seriously, that just renders any rps/games involving them useless, lol, even the story intensive ones. Yes, I was going to run a Spirit of the Century game (not stat based at all, purely roleplay) here but need at least three six sided dice . . .

Anyway we could get one? I'll look for one later if that helps. Right now insomnia's still on me.

Been a while, so I may be a bit rusty . . . oh, just a heads up to any mods/admin: This thread is purposefully vague. I don't even have a plot in mind just yet. I'm thinking that, once we're ready (whoever is interested), we'll start up a new OOC thread and go from there.

I'll open with telling a bit about something that over the past year I've fallen in love with: Thieves' World. This book series is dark, gritty, and even deep. Themes that were clearly not for kids, fleshed out characters, and many other stuff. It's become my favorite book series ever, and that's a bit hard to believe, since I'm a book nerd. What is Thieves' World, other then a book? It is what happens when many authors - ones like Jeff Grubb who are well known, and less known - come together, work together, make a city, and lots of colorful characters to populate it. Each author added to the story and setting in their own way, and also made a character. The books were each an anthology, comprising of one story by an author, in which they could use another author's character - within limits. They could not kill off or drastically change a character without the owner's permission. Through this, Sanctuary - the putrid husk of a city that served as the focal point for the series - an ever growing and changing area, that lived and breathed its noxious, seductive fumes.

I want to start an rp with that style, where everybody involved helps to flesh out the characters, story, setting, and anything else that comes our way. Obviously, this will involve lots of effort on our parts, and hopefully large amounts of posts on the OOC thread. It's the finer, and basic details, that I'm seriously not sure about. Then again, me posting this in the throes of insomnia doesn't help either . . .

Do we want to actually have a Thieves' World rp? If so, it's actually simple enough that I can list some areas in it, like the Maze, and we go from there. It was intentionally left vague, to the point that things like how large it was were literally never decided.

Exactly how dark and gritty do we want to get? Obviously, we won't be going by Thieves' World to much, in that it had rape, prostitution, slavery, murder, hatred, drugs, and a whole slew of other things.

Location, location, location. Are we setting this in a metropolis like Lankhmar and Sanctuary, or having this be a more loose setting?

Dragon, or not to dragon? I love dragons, as do most people on this forum, but . . . they can easily unbalance things. Not sure what to do on that aspect.

The plot . . . oh gods the plot. What to do? Honestly, my thoughts was that everybody has a backstory for their character (thinking of making that a requirement), and their stories and the character's themselves make the plot(s). Perhaps one has a crimelord after them for not paying a loan, and another character is dragged into that incident just by being in the wrong area? Who knows.

What I really need is people willing to work with me here. My rps tend to start off great but just flat out die. I am also on AIM and MSN if somebody wants to get a hold of me for more real time planning. This will be a swords and sorcery style rp, set in medieval fantasy.
